Policy Team Leads Student Course on Securing and Sustaining Water for Food Globally
The DWFI policy team led a 3-week course for 26 students at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln during the Fall 2020 semester. The interdisciplinary and interactive course focused on the business and sustainability aspects of water use for food production through interactive activities and professional development work. Students connected with a global network of business and thought leaders to understand where future water and food challenges will be and how students can help to solve them. Throughout the course, content leaders emphasized analyzing entrepreneurial approaches to evaluate the use of water in agriculture and potential impacts, opportunities and challenges.
For their capstone project, students worked with staff from a large multinational company on a sustainability analysis using real data and applying tools and insights from the class. One student commented: “I learned so much information and, so far, it has been the only class allowing me to gain an in-depth understanding on the agricultural industry and water sustainability.”
