DWFI staff receive well-deserved recognition
Lal wins spot in Irrigation Association’s E3 program
Ishani Lal, a double MS student in Agricultural Economics and Agronomy working with the DWFI policy team, is one of the winners of the 2022 E3 program. This is a recognition of interdisciplinary research, and to DWFI's knowledge, Lal is the first Ag Economics student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to receive the award.
The Irrigation Association’s E3 Program program focuses on providing irrigation students (E3 learners) and faculty members (E3 leaders) with exposure, experience, and education that revolves around the irrigation industry. Irrigation E3 Students receive an education and travel award through an application process.
Winners also have the opportunity to take education classes, attend industry sessions, explore the trade show, and engage with the E3 program lead sponsor, The Toro Company. Every year, Irrigation Association and The Toro Company award 20-30 students nationally working on irrigation projects in their schools.
The program took place in December 2022 at the Irrigation Show and Education Week in Las Vegas. As an E3 program winner, Lal had the opportunity to attend three advanced courses on Center Pivot Design, Irrigated Soils and Soil-Plant-Air Continuum, and interact with fellow E3 winners. She especially enjoyed the Women in Irrigation Breakfast networking session and meeting with other women who are working in the irrigation industry. The Irrigation Show allows participants to interact with industry people and learn about the innovation happening in the irrigation space.

Poythress nominated for IANR Outstanding Employee Award
In recognition of an employee who goes above and beyond their job responsibilities, Outstanding Employee Awards (OEA) are presented each year to University of Nebraska–Lincoln Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) employees. The award was created to recognize and honor outstanding dedication and excellent job performance.
DWFI Events Coordinator Amber Poythress was one of the nominees for this year's award and attended a celebration luncheon hosted by IANR and Mike Boehm, vice president and vice chancellor of agriculture and natural resources.
"Amber is a joy to have on the team — always thinking proactively about the next task or event and how to uplift the mission and reputation of the institute and the University as a whole. She finds ways to make things happen — even when they may seem impossible — and does so with poise and professionalism," said Frances Hayes, DWFI director of communications and public relations.
The following DWFI Faculty Fellows were also honored at the awards luncheon:
- Andrea Basche, Agronomy and Horticulture, was awarded the Dinsdale Family Faculty Award
- Lilyan Fulginiti, Agricultural Economics, was awarded the Omtvedt Innovation Award in research
- David Aiken, Agricultural Economic was awarded the Omtvedt Innovation Award in extension
