NWC was reviewed internally by staff and externally by a review committee of Water Center Directors from across the U.S. NWC was established by Congressional mandate as one of 54 Water Resources Research Institutes in 1964 focused on helping the state of Nebraska and the University of Nebraska become international leaders in water research, teaching, extension and outreach.
NWC staff submitted its review document in fall 2022 and the external review committee visited the center in November of the same year. They completed their review in January 2023 and provided IANR and NWC Director Chittaranjan Ray with constructive recommendations. NWC is now considering opportunities for future improvement of the center, including increased student involvement and publications in high impact journals, as well as collaboration opportunities for water faculty and extension educators across the state.
The review team complimented NWC on its strong leadership, visibility within the University of Nebraska System, state-of-the-art Water Sciences Laboratory located on UNL’s East Campus, and effective synergy between NWC and DWFI, which often share resources and research projects.
