Entry Period
The Photo Contest begins at 12:00 a.m. CDT on October 19, 2020 and ends at 11:59 p.m. CST on November 13, 2020 (the “Entry Period”). Entries submitted before or after the Entry Period will not be eligible.
What To Enter
The theme for DWFI’s 2021 photo contest is on improving freshwater quality in Nebraska, the U.S. and the world. Photos could feature research, projects being implemented and the benefits of improved water quality on agriculture, public health and the environment.
To guarantee eligibility for the contest all entries must have a resolution of 9 megapixels or greater. Photos should be orientated horizontally. The photos should also be able to be reasonably cropped into a 11-inch-wide by 8.5-inch-high area. Please submit the original resolution files at the time of entry. Each individual may enter up to one (1) photo.
Entries may originate in any format – including digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints – so long as they are submitted electronically in a JPEG format. Previously published material for which non-exclusive rights were granted may be entered as long as you still maintain the right to grant us a license (see “Your Rights” section). Please disclose when and where the photo appeared previously.
If people are included in your photo submission, please include a signed consent form from the individuals depicted with your entry. You may use the consent form.
How To Enter
All images must be submitted through our photo submission page. To be eligible you must fill in all the required fields. The system will notify you if the submission was successful. Upon submission, eligible entries will then be uploaded to the DWFI Facebook page once the entry period closes to broaden awareness of the competition and enable voting for the Viewers’ Choice award (see “Judging” below).
DWFI reserves the right to reject any additional entries that do not comply with these Official Rules. By entering, you indicate your unconditional agreement to, and acceptance of these Official Rules and DWFI’s decisions, which are final and binding.
Judging
Photos will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, impact, artistic merit and subject matter relevance to water for food, except that the Viewers’ Choice award will be determined by which entry receives the most Facebook ‘reactions’. Judging will be conducted by a panel of professional photographers. The panel will evaluate all valid entries and pick one (1) first prize, one (1) second prize and one (1) third prize. All three winners will be notified of the panel’s decision by November 20, 2020.
The Viewers’ Choice award will begin voting on November 16, 2020, once all the photos have been uploaded to Facebook. Voting will close on 12:59 p.m. CST on November 20, 2020 and the Viewers’ Choice winner will be announced on November 20, 2020 by the end of the day.
All judging decisions are final.
