The Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute (DWFI) was officially established at the second Water for Food Global Conference in May 2010, following a generous $50 million commitment from irrigation pioneer and Valmont founder Bob Daugherty. This year, the 2025 Water for Food Global Conference marked the DWFI’s 15th anniversary.
Since its inception in 2010, DWFI has been a leading force in sustainable water management for agriculture, both locally and globally. Through innovative research, strategic collaborations, and impactful programs, the institute has made substantial contributions to improving water use efficiency, agricultural productivity, and environmental sustainability.
Over the past 15 years, DWFI has achieved remarkable outcomes, including extensive support for student research projects and fostering international engagement and collaboration to enhance global water and food security. The institute's expertise in water management for high-productivity commercial agriculture; smallholder agricultural water management; and environmental and human health in agricultural systems has solidified its reputation as a global leader.
To commemorate this significant milestone, DWFI celebrated with several initiatives throughout the year, including:
- A 15th Anniversary video featuring interviews with key supporters of the institute
- A special episode of the Water for Food Podcast delving into the institute’s origins
- A 15th Anniversary Reception held during the 2025 Water for Food Global Conference
DWFI’s achievements are a testament to the dedication of its staff, supporters, and collaborative partners. As we reflect on 15 years of impactful work, we are committed to continuing our mission of addressing critical water and food security challenges and invite all to join us in shaping a more secure future for generations to come.
