Benedito Braga is a civil engineer with technical and management expertise in hydrologic forecasting, mathematical modeling, water resources planning and management, multiple objective decision-making, operations research applied to water resources management, and environmental hydrology. In addition to his roles with the World Water Council and the University of São Paulo, Brazil, Braga is vice-chair of the Latin America and Caribbean region of the International Hydrological Programme, part of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
Previously, Braga served as vice-president of the World Water Council for six years and was director of the National Water Agency of Brazil for eight years.
Braga received a doctorate in water resources from Stanford University. He is a member of the Brazilian Water Resources Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, International Water Resources Association and International Association of Hydrological Sciences. Braga has published extensively on issues related to water resources development. He recently chaired the international committee for the sixth World Water Forum and has chaired other international workshops and conferences on sustainable water resources management.
