Water for Food

2017 Water for Food Global Conference – Photo Competition

Official Rules of the Daugherty Water for Food Institute’s 2017 Global Conference Photography Contest

The 2017 Global Conference Photography Contest (“Photo Contest”), organized as part of our 2017 Global Conference, “Water for Food Security: From Local Lessons to Global Impacts,” is open to anyone, anywhere, who is at least eighteen (18) years old. Employees of the Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Institute (“DWFI”) and those closely affiliated (Faculty Fellows, Global Fellows, Board Members, International Advisory Panel and Student Interns) are not eligible to enter.

The Photo Contest is led by the Daugherty Water for Food Institute, 2021 Transformation Drive, Suite 3220, Lincoln, NE, USA, 68588.

Entry Period

The Photo Contest begins at 12:00 a.m. CST on February 6, 2017 and ends at 12:00 a.m. CDT on April 3, 2017 (the “Entry Period”). Entries submitted before or after the Entry Period will not be eligible.

What To Enter

The DWFI is committed to addressing the global challenge of achieving food security with less stress on water resources through improved water management in agricultural and food systems. We’d like to know: “what does ‘Water for Food’ look like in your local garden, ranch, neighborhood, farm or city?” Tailored to the conference theme, we’re excited to see water for food in your backyard!

To guarantee eligibility for the contest all entries must have a resolution of 6 megapixels or greater. However, please only submit web resolution files at the time of entry. Files greater than 6 megapixels will only be requested should an entry be selected for a prize or an honorable mention. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (removal of dust, cropping, reasonable adjustments to exposure, color and contrast, etc.) will be disqualified. Each individual may enter up to three (3) photos. Note: photo(s) must be submitted as a single attachment with a maximum file size of 25 MB.

Entries may originate in any format – including digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints – so long as they are submitted electronically in a .jpeg, .jpg, .png or .gif format. Previously published material for which non-exclusive rights were granted may be entered as long as you still maintain the right to grant us a license (see “Your Rights” section). Please disclose when and where the photo appeared previously.

If you choose to include people in your submission, you are responsible for obtaining the necessary consent releases from the individuals depicted, and must be able to provide copies of those releases to DWFI upon request.

How To Enter

All images must be submitted through our photo submission page. Please include all required fields, including name, email, date, location and a description (200 words max.) of each photo submission. Entries with omitted or incomplete information will be disqualified. Entries will then be uploaded to the DWFI website and its social media sites to broaden awareness of the competition and enable voting for the Viewers’ Choice award (see “Judging” below).

DWFI reserves the right to reject any additional entries that do not comply with these Official Rules. By entering, you indicate your unconditional agreement to, and acceptance of these Official Rules and DWFI’s decisions, which are final and binding.

Photos will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, impact, artistic merit and subject matter relevance to water for food, except that the Viewers’ Choice award will be determined by which entry receives the most votes. Judging will be conducted by a panel of professional photographers. The panel will evaluate all valid entries and pick one (1) first prize, one (1) runner-up and one (1) second runner-up. All three winners will be notified of the panel’s decision by April 7, 2017.

The Viewers’ Choice award will begin voting on April 3, 2017, after all entries have been submitted. Voting will close on 12:00 a.m. CDT on April 12, 2017 and the Viewers’ Choice winner will be announced on the final day of the 2017 Water for Food Global Conference.

All judging decisions are final.
