As we enter our 15th year as an institute, it’s a moment to reflect on just how far we’ve come.
What began with a single question – how can we address the water and food security challenges facing the world? – has grown into an incredible journey. In 2010, thanks to a generous $50 million gift from philanthropist Robert B. Daugherty, the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute was established at the University of Nebraska with a clear mission: to focus on the sustainable and efficient use of water for food production.
Fast forward to today, DWFI is now recognized as a global thought leader in water management for agricultural and food systems, as well as related human and ecosystem health issues.
Our work is far from over. With a growing global population and food demand expected to rise by 50% by 2050, coupled with the increasing challenges of climate change and global conflict, the need for sustainable solutions has never been more critical.
The institute will celebrate its 15th anniversary at the Water for Food Global Conference April 28-May 2, 2025 in Lincoln, Nebraska and we invite you to join us.
Thank you for being part of our journey. We look forward to continuing this work alongside you in the new year and beyond.
