Nebraska livestock producers and farmers have made dramatic improvements in water use over the past few decades, according to research by Mesfin Mekonnen, research assistant with the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute at the University of Nebraska. Improvements in breeding, reduced water use in crops and production efficiency has resulted in more meat or crops per unit of water. This benefits our environment and our food security.
